A Cozy Snowy Evening

Spent last night...

Baking for the Holiday

Watching the swirling snow outside my
window and shaking my head at all
of the crazy drivers out on the road.

Frosting Sugar Cookies with James

Watching Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman
(It was the best episode...the one where
she goes back to Boston to see her
mom and Sully goes there to find her.)
EPIC

Spending today...

Cleaning
Packing
Folding Laundry
Wrapping Presents

Listening to Christmas Music
(Niel Diamond, Martina McBride,
and SheDaisy, as well as a few
oldie goldies I found on ITunes.)

Waiting IMPATIENTLY
for James to get home so that we
can spend Thanksgiving in Idaho with Family.

Jobs, Snowy Roads, and Storms can make
holiday's a beast in the Wintertime!

I hope everybody has a
great Thanksgiving!

Micah's Cake

My cutie-pie niece Micah turned 8 and got baptized
this last weekend.  James was lucky enough to get
Saturday off so we made a weekend out of it visiting
his and my parents.  I asked my sister if I could make
Micah a cake because lets face it, I never get the chance
to make cakes and they are my favorite thing to make.

Micah's favorite colors are blue and green.

Micah loves white cake with white frosting.  So the top cake
is a homemade white cake with a caramel frosting filling and the
bottom cake is a butter pecan cake also with a caramel filling.
(mostly cause I was too lazy to figure out another filling, but
I figured anything is better with caramel.) The cake is frosted
with a buttercream frosting, then covered in fondant.

It turned out to be much more work than anticipated...haha!
But I loved it!  I finished it up at my mom's house and
my sister in law (who is awesome at decorating cakes herself)
helped me "glue and paste" all the flowers and stripes and stuff.
We had a blast decorating to Taylor Swift in the background!
Thanks Caitlin!

Me and Miss Micah at the church.
Congratulations Micah!
It was a great weekend and so fun to see and
visit with family.  James and I both just love our in-laws
and realize how lucky we are to have great parents and families!

Final Cake

Monday was the final cake class
for for a while... While I am sad, it will be nice to
have a break. I didn't know cakes could be so stressful!

Either way, here she is...

Um...springtime yet elegant????? haha!

Fondant Cake Numero Uno

Here are some pics from our latest
Cake Class: Fondant!

Let me just say, that I LOVE Fondant. I love playing around
with the colors! I made a copper orange color for my cake and
my cousin Teresa made an awesome blue, so we combined our
colors for fun. Coincidentally, I think these colors were my
parent's wedding colors.

This was a fun cake to make, the corners are a beast to master
though, that will take some more practice, but I love it already!

I think Double-Decker square cakes might be my new favorite!

A view from the back.

Until next class...

Wilton Course Two Final Cake

Here is my final cake from our Course 2 Wilton Cake Decorating Class. We learned how and made all of the flowers in the previous classes and compiled them onto our final cake. We learned the basketweave and it was fun but kind of tricky. Good thing my trusty ol' cousin Teresa was there to tell me how to do it!

Here she is...

And I just realized that this little guy is blind and he can't chirp. I forgot to add the eyes and I broke his beak trying to get him off the wax paper. Too bad he was only made to be food anyway...

Next up...Course 3 Fondant and I can't wait!

Cakes again!

Here is my final and very colorful cake from our last night in our Level 1 Cake class.

Don't even worry about all the cake crumbs smashed into the frosting, ok. I had some MAJOR cake trauma right before class.

I'm not going to lie, my roses were a little sketchy when I was first making them, but when you just pile them all on top of the cake like that, they don't look as bad as I thought. I was excited that nobody called my cake a cabbage patch this time.

I had lots of cool ideas I wanted to try out on this cake, but I found that class time was running out, my skills were severely lacking, and I was much to lazy to mess around with the frosting anymore.

Teresa and I start our Level 2 course next Wednesday! We are pretty darn excited about it too! It just feels good to do something creative, no matter what the things I create look like. It's good for the soul!

Cupcakes!

Because I have no shame...

Presenting the results from Cake Decorating Night #3!

This week we brought cupcakes.

And I think the purpose was to just practice flowers on these cupcakes people, so that is why they look like they do.

Okay, I already colored my frosting green before I realized that was going to be the color of my roses. We call this one cabbage patch.

Don't worry, there will be more embarrassing projects coming soon! It is just too good to leave alone!

From Decorating Cakes to Gambling...

This is how our night on Tuesday went down.

Cake decorating with Teresa at Michaels from 6:30 to 8:30.

Somehow not getting the memo that we were supposed to bring our cakes ALREADY FROSTED.

Try to hurry and frost our cakes while our teacher glares at us and is disgusted at our methods as we get cake crumbs all over our frosting.

Hurry and try to figure out how to decorate our cakes while being a mix between being flustered and laughing our guts out.

The final products. Next week we will be prepared and we will show up the know-it all "cake genious" girl in our class.

We loved it and we can't wait to go back!

We even got home early enough to crash in on the Guy's Poker Night.

Or maybe I should say CASH in on the Guy's Poker Night.

Go ahead and just ask DAVE who cleaned house.

He was a little bit sore that he had to keep buying in cause he lost his money so fast. We were pretty intense with our $1.50 a person entry fee. haha

But I have been enjoying the $5.75 I won...
