A Weekend in Zion

Last weekend we and a bunch of friends went camping in Zion's National Park in Southern Utah. Talk about Beautiful! Our friends Dave and Teresa planned and organized the whole event while we just paid our bit and showed up. It was one of the best freaking weekends in a long time!

It was a quick trip. We left after work on Friday and by the
time we picked everybody up, stopped and let Wendy's
feed us dinner, and drive clear the crap down there,
it was past midnight.

Here are a few tricks of the trade we learned on how
NOT to tick off your camping neighbors...

1. Arrive BEFORE 12:30 AM
2. Turn OFF your car lights while you are setting up your tents
3. Take special care not to hit your car alarm button on your keys.

After an EXTREMELY windy/short night, (for some)
we woke up to a beautiful day.

Here is the Carlson/Steel hotel. It was a very cozy
Canvas Haven and protected all of us against the
winds MUCH better than everybody elses little mesh top tents!

A group of us eating breakfast in the morning.
The Carlson's took such good care of us, we even
had a choice between 3 different cereals and Oatmeal!

James and on the bus to Angels Landing.

Our entire group before breaking off to do the
different hikes.

The cute girls: Jessica, Sue, Connie, and Becky.

James and I on the trail to Angel's Landing.

Taking a breather...

I told James I wanted a nice picture of us,
so he jumps on me. Ha,I love that boy!

I have no words, except Dave's face freaks me out... haha

My favorite part of the hike...The Wiggles!!

And...the place where I stopped. The rest of the hike
involved chains to pull you up, Rachel and I sent the
rest of the group on ahead, while we...ah...held the
bags...

Apparently the view was top notch though!

The crew at the VERY top, after the chains.

I was very thankful to hear that he survived.

I was okay with THIS view that I got at Chicken Out Ridge
though...Can't be too picky.

Don't know what that is all about.

Wait, there's more!
What is camping without a campfire and Dutch Oven Goulosh
and Dutch Oven Potatoes, and Blueberry Cobbler and Peach
Cobbler and fire roasted breadstics and Marshmallows and
S'mores???
We pretty much ate food for 4 hours straight!

Dave, Jon, James, Me, Scott

Dave testing the food.

The cobbler must be done...James is running! :)

Those are not Teresa's legs.

Jessica, Melissa, James, Rachel, Jon

Stargazing anybody? The stars in the sky were absolutely
beautiful all weekend!
3 Secrets to a great trip...
1. Great Friends
2. Great Place to Stay
3. A Luggage rack on top of the car to fit in everybody's
crap!!!!
Thanks Dave and Teresa!!! It was so fun!
*Most of these pictures are mine, but I may or may not have stolen
some of them from Sue and Melissa and Jon's facebook page... Thanks
to all you unknown contributors!

Monthly Girl Talk

Once a month some of my friends from
High School get together for a girls
night. Sometimes we meet at a resturant
and sometimes we take turns
eating dinner at each others homes.

It is always fun and always entertaining
and I always love hearing about the different
stages of life we are all in. It is a
gab-fest of Jobs, Husbands, Babies, and
whatever else girly we need to discuss.

Here are all of us at our last
get-together at Iggy's.

Me, Lacey, Emily, Elena, and Venita.

Thanks for all the good times girls!

Fondant Cake Numero Uno

Here are some pics from our latest
Cake Class: Fondant!

Let me just say, that I LOVE Fondant. I love playing around
with the colors! I made a copper orange color for my cake and
my cousin Teresa made an awesome blue, so we combined our
colors for fun. Coincidentally, I think these colors were my
parent's wedding colors.

This was a fun cake to make, the corners are a beast to master
though, that will take some more practice, but I love it already!

I think Double-Decker square cakes might be my new favorite!

A view from the back.

Until next class...

Diary of a Girls Night

So the other night we girls decided we needed
some girl time.

We sent the boys away and got down to business...

While I got LOTS more pictures, they were even more
disturbing than this one...

So I won't get into it any more than that.

Just know that
Friends + Food + Face Masks =
Crazy Girls

It was awesome! Just like the old days...

The After-Mask Fresh Faced Girls

The boys had a boy's night as well. Filled with Guac,
IBC Rootbeer, Poker, and other manly things like that.

Speaking of manly, Look who's man had the most chips...

KA-CHING!!!

Ode to Cholula

Mmmmmm.....

Oh Cholula,
What would we do without you?

What would we put on our Egg Sandwiches every
morning without you nestled in between a delightful
fried egg, wheat toast, and a bit of cheese?

What would we do to dress up our tacos?
Taco's, normally so boring and drab, just
NEED your deliciously spicy-pizazz.

James says you're even good with tuna fish
and just last night he asked me to make him his
favorite, turkey, spinach, and you stuffed in a pita.

You are also very helpful for the health consious since
even with all your flavor you still claim ZERO calories!

So I guess what we are trying to say is
THANK YOU CHOLULA
You make our day!!

Wilton Course Two Final Cake

Here is my final cake from our Course 2 Wilton Cake Decorating Class. We learned how and made all of the flowers in the previous classes and compiled them onto our final cake. We learned the basketweave and it was fun but kind of tricky. Good thing my trusty ol' cousin Teresa was there to tell me how to do it!

Here she is...

And I just realized that this little guy is blind and he can't chirp. I forgot to add the eyes and I broke his beak trying to get him off the wax paper. Too bad he was only made to be food anyway...

Next up...Course 3 Fondant and I can't wait!

The Annual Family Jazz Game

Every year my wonderful dad takes orders from all of his siblings for Jazz Tickets. It used to be a boys only thing a while back, but the girls decided they didn't want to miss out on the fun anymore. It's a big gathering of Brothers, Sisters, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews, Boyfriends, and even a few friends.

The night starts off with everybody meeting for a Crown Burger. Then we all walk to the Delta Center and watch the warmups. Here are the pics from my camera that night.

I told my little nephew to smile and this is what he gave me.

Some of our family across the arena sitting down by the court just before they got kicked out because somebody wanted to sit in their seats or something like that.
For the game we always sit in the Nosebleed section. We are pretty big spenders. My dad reserves about 3 rows all together at the very top of the top. We are so far up the last row is fold out chairs.
Good thing most of us are just their to socialize...cause even the TV looks small.

At the top, sitting next to D and T. (Haha, that is what James and I call them for short...)

Some of my family behind us.

My darling Favorite Aunts Linda and Barbara!

Back at the Crown Burger getting our cars and saying our goodbyes!

And TWO more for all the LADIES...

MmmmHmmm....

Not too shabby...
